SOT Annan: "I have not given in to conditions, I'm encouraging the United States to pay its contribution to the United Nations. They have their own internal proceedures and rules and I do not want to get into that but where it is necessary for me to explain to important decision makers what we are doing, why the UN is important to the US and why we need US leadership and why all the members and all the nations of the world need to come together to make this wonderful instrument a genuinely powerful tool for the world, I will do that, But I'm not here to... or to negotiate conditions."
SOT Camdessus in English: "We are a family and we are used to working
together, we have made significant progress under the leadership of your
predecessor... We have an enormous agenda and the world expects nothing less from all of us than being in the field together, coming together in the same direction and the agenda is huge and with the leadership of the secretary general, I'm sure we will hear good news in the future,"
