In November 1943, Iran played host to the leaders of three global superpowers - British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, American President Franklin Roosevelt, and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin - who met for the first time in the capital, Tehran, to plan the final pushback against Nazi Germany. The Tehran Conference paved the way for the victories of the Allied Forces in 1944 and changed the course of the Second World War.
