At a news conference in Victoria, British Columbia Premier John Horgan provides an update on his government's response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. He announces that the province will bring in an order on April 23 to prohibit people from non-essential travel outside their local health authorities, with police checkpoints in place to enforce the order. B.C. will also limit provincial travel by working with the tourism sector to reject bookings from people travelling outside their local areas. B.C. Ferries will also stop accepting bookings for recreational vehicles. The provincial government will be putting up signs along the B.C.-Alberta border to discourage non-essential interprovincial travel, but there are currently no plans for checkpoints.
Dr. Bonnie Henry, British Columbia’s provincial health officer, and B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix also take part in the briefing and announce the age of eligibility for the AstraZeneca vaccine is being lowered to 40. (April 19, 2021)
