One of the best meetings of the 1996 Grasstrack season, and what a way to start the year off. A superb entry in all classes, with some spectacular action as well. Just look at the 500cc Solo entry. Paul Hurry, Trevor Banks, Steve Daw, Steve Bishop, Gary Lobb, and the spectacular youngster Gary Reynolds. Reynolds just starting out in his racing career, and then Trevor Banks who is now in the twilight years of his career, but Trevor can still mix it with the best of them.
Steve Daw always attracts a crowd, with his full throttle style of racing, and he rides in both the 500cc & 350cc classes. So could he possibly do the double. If he stays upright, anything is possible with Dawsy. He'll have his work cut out even to win one of the classes, and in the 350's he's got Wayne Broadhurst, Dave Mears, Neil Scopes, and Mitch Godden to contend with.
Another cracking line-up in the 250cc Solo's, with a lot of South Eastern talent on display, in the shape of Lee Street, Keith Strudwick, Paul Simmons, Dean Camier, and Terry Giles, but the Eastern centre has some very quick riders in the entry, including Richard Smith, Phil Ranson, and Jack Walker. Jason Stott, all the way from Shropshire will make them all go, and must be amongst the favourites for this class. Some very close racing in all Solo classes, and not to be out done, the Sidecars were just as spectacular. The LH Sidecars were all from the South East, but to pick the winning crew was an impossible job. John Fish, John Arnott, Barry Geer, Phillip Davis, Neil Cuff, Tony Penfold, Tommy Penfold, and Graham Hilton all looked very much on par in practice, and there was very little between them in the racing.
The class everyone loves to see, the 1000cc RH Sidecars were just amazing. Mutli British Masers Champion Roger Measor always starts as favourite, but nothing is easy with these monsters of the sport, and there's always tough competition in the class. Others to consider, include Dave Steer, John Halsey, Ivor Matthews, Rob Wilson, Mark Edwards, Duncan Tolhurst, and John Hiscock. All top stars in their own right, with a wealth of experience. A fantastic meeting to kick off the 1996 season in the South Eastern centre.
