Talking about the Women’s Reservation Bill that was introduced by the Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal in the first sitting of Lok Sabha in the new Parliament building on September 19, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani thanked PM Modi and said that he laid the constitutional foundation of women-led development in the Parliament.
“PM Modi had announced Women-led development in India. The world accepted this acclamation during the G20. PM Modi laid the constitutional foundation of women-led development today,” said Smriti Irani.
The Women’s Reservation Bill which seeks to guarantee 33 per quota for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies was introduced as the 128th Constitutional Amendment Bill by the Union Law Minister. Arjun Ram Meghwal said that once the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam is passed, the number of seats for women in Lok Sabha will increase to 181.
This was the first agenda of the day taken up by the Lower House in the new Parliament building. The five-day special session of the Parliament began on September 19.
