President Clinton has been to Oklahoma City as America prepares to mark the first anniversary of the bombing that killed 169 people.
Clinton laid a wreath on the site and dedicated a memorial plaque to be put in a day care centre in memory of the 18 children killed on 19 April 1995.
The President's scheduled to be on an overseas trip at the time of the actual anniversary, which is why this commemoration was early.
Accompanied by six of the children who survived the blast, President and Hillary Clinton stood at the site of America's worst terrorist atrocity to honour the dead and the living.
Bagpipers struck up "Amazing Grace" as children, some injured in the bombing, paid their own respects.
The President and First Lady were clearly moved by the emotion of the event, coming two days after they lost their friend and cabinet colleague Commerce Secretary Ron Brown.
Clinton then turned his attention to the memory of the Oklahoma city tragedy:
SOUNDBITE:
We pray God's grace today on those who lost so much a year ago and on the efforts of those of you who are working hard to build the better future to make something profoundly good come out of that tragedy.
SUPER CAPTION: Bill Clinton, U-S President.
With a plaque he dedicated a new day care centre to replace the one destroyed in the Alfred Murrah Federal Centre.
