Walter Kaufmann taught philosophy at Princeton University from 1947-1980. This is a public domain audio program of a lecture he gave in 1960 entitled "Nietzsche and the Crisis in Philosophy". I just added some video to it and re-uploaded it. Friedrich Nietzsche lived from 1844-1900 and wrote a good number of books during his life. Walter Kaufmann helped introduce Nietzsche to the American public through his university lectures. George Brandes introduced Nietzsche to Europe in his 1914 biography about him. He had earlier introduced Soren Kierkegaard to Germany with his 1879 biography about him.
The lecture begins by asking why people should study the works of people who hold such terrible views and what is the proper place of philosophy in the world.
