According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children account for nearly 15% of new COVID-19 cases, with 93,824 new infections reported between July 29 and Aug. 5. There has been a total of 4.3 million cases among children since the start of the pandemic.
Florida is leading the nation in pediatric COVID-related hospitalizations over the last week, with at least 300 cases. As a result of the rise in cases, several counties in Florida are requiring students, parents and administrators to wear masks indoors during school hours and events.
