Panelists Dr. Gary Bloch (Family Physician, St. Michael’s Hospital FHT and ICHA), Dr. Daniel Rosenbaum (Psychiatrist, UHN and ICHA), are joined by Larry Gower and Karyn Hawco, two individuals with lived experience, to discuss patient and provider-identified challenges in accessing preventative physical health care for individuals with SPMI, opportunities for improvement in helping individuals with SPMI navigate their medical needs, and areas for collaboration across psychiatric and primary care to improve patient care and outcomes.
This presentation was part of "Prevention in Chronicity: A New Paradigm for SPMI Care," an annual conference in honour of Maureen Kushnir hosted by UHN's Centre for Mental Health.
This virtual educational event helps inform healthcare providers about structural vulnerabilities experienced by patients living with SPMI, the specific challenges they face in addressing their physical health needs, and recent research in this area. It also equip attendees with tools and approaches to caring for SPMI patients with major medical illnesses.
