A walk around my Morris Z / Eight special that I am building for a bit of fun the car is based upon a 1946 Morris Z utility chassis that I rescued from the roof my brothers shed. This car is definitely being built on a very tight budget but I am enjoying the process. Originally the car would have had an 800cc side-valve engine with a three speed crash box . I am planning to fit a slightly larger Morris minor engine and gearbox. This will give a goodly improvement in the horsepower but keep with the style . A four-speed box with syncromesh on the top three gears will be nice though.
These cars were a step up from an Austin Seven but still aimed at the same Everyman motorist. Before any purists have a meltdown at my sacrilege and disregard for originality please keep in mind that all of the parts were essentially scrap metal and as my starting point was not a complete car to start with nothing has been lost from the vintage car gene pool by me building it.
