C/U of a bookmaker taking a bet off a man, C/U as he puts the slip into a big bag. The narrator says this is a Derby and gymkhana for cart horses which are often forgotten in favour of race horses.
L/S of cart horses walking round in a circle, they are being ridden bareback, M/S of the horses. C/U of one grey horse, it has a female jockey with number '26' on her sleeve. C/U of the legs of a horse trotting along, it is followed by another one. M/S of people in the crowd looking and smiling. L/S of the start of the race, the horses set off at a run. C/U of people in the crowd watching them. M/S of the horses racing past. C/U of a young couple in the crowd. M/S of the winning horse 'Golden Boy' ridden by Sally Dungay. A man walks up and pats the horse. M/S from another angle as he presents the Lester Piggott Cup to Sally.
C/U of a bucket full of potatoes, hands come down and pick one out, then the bucket is picked up. M/S of a man sticking potatoes to the top of poles, this is in preparation for the Open Potato Race. C/U of a man waving the starting flag. L/S as the horses race towards the sticks, M/S as a girl on one horse grabs the potato from the stick. C/U of a woman, two children and a dog watching the event. L/S of one of the riders galloping off. M/S as one girl rides up, the camera pans down to a bucket, she drops the potato but it misses and falls on the floor, L/S as the riders race off. L/S as the process is repeated, M/S as a potato is thrown into the bucket. C/U of the bucket. C/U of a woman talking to a little girl in the crowd.
M/S of two men walking along, one of them is carrying a basket of apples. He is placing an apple in a row of buckets on the ground. C/U of an apple being dropped into a bucket. This is in preparation for the apple bobbing race. M/S of the race beginning, L/S as the horses ride up to the buckets, the riders dismount and bend down to pick the apples up with their teeth. C/U of one girl trying to pick up the apple, C/U of another one trying. M/S of the man with the basket of apples waving them on, there are several other people stood watching with him.
M/S as the girls race off with the apples in their mouths. M/S of the winner, 13 year old Jennifer Woodcock riding 'Acron', another horse races past after her. M/S of three women and a young girl watching, one of the women is holding a white horse by the reins. M/S of Jennifer with the apple in her mouth patting the horse. A man walks up and presents her with a red rosette, she takes a bite out of the apple.
