Tridents rarely do the 60 anymore, with T42/3 now only doing it max one or two times per month. However, on one Saturday when I went out, T42 did appear and I managed to get a bit lucky.
LVF was showing this bus was scheduled to depart Old Coulsdon on the 08:25 working, which was its' first run of the day. However, bustimes was showing it was still in Purley on the lightrun at 08:27 - possibly due to an issue in the depot. By the time it was tracked departing Old Coulsdon, it was 08:38, already 13 minutes late. During the trip towards Streatham, it somehow incurred a 11 minute delay, meaning it was forced to curtail to Thornton Heath at about 09:30, 24 minutes late. From here, it ran empty to Streatham via the A23, arriving at 09:45.
For some stupid reason, its' intended 09:37 departure was not cancelled nor taken by another bus, so it departed pretty much as soon as it arrived at 09:47, already running 10 minutes late. I boarded in Thornton Heath at 10:10, where the bus was still 10 late and had not made up any time.
Now I could immediately see this driver was keen to get going, but was constrained due to slow traffic for the first 10-15 mins. However, past Croydon and when I finally managed to get into the back seat, he could finally put his foot down. We had lots of pullaway kickdowns (once managing 5th on Brighton Road!) as well as many downshifts up Mead Way on the final descent up to Old Coulsdon. A decent performer, but not as good compared to T60-65/199.
I will be very sad when these last two leave, as the days of E400 bodied tridents from C and TC will have all but gone. But all good things have to end at some point, so I guess this was an ideal time to get some luck. This will probably be very nostalgic looking back on this in a year's time though...
