A Christmas market, also known as , Christkindlmarket and Weihnachtsmarkt, is a street market associated with the celebration of Christmas during the four weeks of Advent. These markets originated in Germany, but are now held in many other countries. Christmas markets date to the Late Middle Ages in the German-speaking part of Europe and, in many parts of the former Holy Roman Empire that included many eastern regions of France. They became a popular Advent custom during the Reformation era.
Nestled away from the cold wind and driving snow, the Christmas Village is located in the largest courtyard of Munich's city palace, the Residenz. Hansel and Gretel in the fairytale forest and puppet shows don’t only make children’s eyes light up.
Munich Christmas market means cozying up with mulled wine (glühwein), eating one’s weight in candied almonds and soaking up a delightful ambiance that could melt even the Grinch.
