The European Union is experiencing a very deep economic crisis, and it must be difficult for the net contributing countries to explain to their voters they have to keep contributing the same amount of funds to the European Union budget as they did during the economic boom. Additionally, Lithuania will possibly have to contribute a huge amount of its own money to decommission the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant despite the widespread doubts about closing it. Nevertheless the EU demanded it be closed and Lithuania was promised assistance in closing the plant in the accession treaty it signed. The Lithuania Tribune asks Member of the European Parliament, Laima Andrikienė, if this is fair on Lithuania.
