LYRICS to CAN'T TOUCH THIS
Sarah Golden
I told you homeboy (You can't touch this)
Yeah, that's how we livin' and ya know (You can't touch this)
Look in my eyes, man (You can't touch this)
Yo, let me bust the funky lyrics
Fresh new mask and gloves
You gotta sit tight, though I know you wanna hug
But stay in yo seat
And order Amazon, don’t catch that heat
While it’s spreadin’, hold on!
Pump a little bit and let ‘em know what’s goin’ on
Like that, like that
COVID on a mission, so fall on back
Let ‘em know you’re worth too much
And this is a face, uh, they can’t touch
[Chorus]
Yo, I told you (Can't touch this)
Why you standin' there, man? (You can't touch this)
Sound the bell, home school’s in, sucka (You can't touch this)

"U Can't Touch This" is a song co-written, produced, and performed by MC Hammer from his 1990 album Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em. It is considered to be his signature song and is his most successful single.
Along with Hammer, Rick James shares songwriting credits with Alonzo Miller because the song samples the prominent opening riff of "Super Freak". It has been used or referenced in television shows, films, commercials, and other forms of media. It has also received numerous awards.
The song is notable as the winner of the Best R&B Song and a Best Rap Solo Performance and the first rap song to be nominated for Record of the Year at the 33rd Annual Grammy Awards in 1991. It also received Best Rap Video and Best Dance Video at the 1990 MTV Video Music Awards. It peaked at No. 1 in the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks and on the charts in several countries.
The song samples the prominent opening riff of the Rick James song "Super Freak", which is repeated throughout the recording. The lyrics describe Hammer as having "toured around the world, from London to the Bay" and as being "magic on the mic", which he says coincides with James' "beat that you can't touch".
Additionally, the lyrics "You can't touch this" and "Stop! Hammer time!" became pop culture catchphrases. Hammertime was later used as the title of a reality show starring Hammer on the A&E Network in the summer of 2009.
The sample of "Super Freak" that forms the basis of the song led Rick James and other performers on the original record to file a lawsuit for infringement of copyright. The suit was settled out of court when Hammer agreed to credit James as a songwriter, effectively granting him millions of dollars in royalties.
The song was first performed publicly on a late 1989 episode of The Arsenio Hall Show.
