Bins full of tart cherries that were just picked in the orchard arrive in the processing collection area. The cherries are kept in ice water until they're moved into the processing plant.
First, workers skim off any leaves and small branches in the bins. By measuring the depth of the cherries in the ice water, the amount of fruit in each bin can be recorded.
Each bin is then emptied onto a conveyor belt that moves the cherries into the processing plant. As the cherries enter the plant their colour is scanned by a computer. The computer system helps to sort the fruit so that only high quality cherries are processed. Cherries that don't make the grade are used to make juice. A specially designed machine removes the pits from the cherries.
Workers are constantly sorting through the cherries and discarding any rejects that may have been missed. Samples are regularly taken and analyzed to make sure that the product is high quality.
The tart cherries are then put into large pails and frozen.
Peaches are washed before they're processed. Next, they're moved into the processing plant on a conveyor belt.
Inside the plant, a variety of machines work in harmony to process the peaches. Like clockwork, peaches are peeled ... the pits are removed ... they're split in half ... and they're cut into slices.
Workers are constantly monitoring the fruit throughout the entire process and removing any blemished pieces.
Finally, the peach slices are packaged and frozen, ready to be shipped.
