Daniel Zengel and Dawn Lipscomb, PhD (Biophysics, UC Berkeley) discuss how non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) negatively affect platelet aggregation and degranulation.
Corrections to livestream:
*3:54: researchers measured the turbidity of PRP samples with light transmission aggregometry. Increased turbidity is correlated to increased platelet aggregation.
*4:50: A significantly decreased platelet aggregation response was noted in PRP samples stimulated with arachidonic acid in the NSAID group. NSAIDs reduce cyclo-oxygenase–mediated oxygen consumption which reduces platelet aggregation and degranulation.
