I enjoy looking for buried treasure and the rewards of finding the occasional piece of jewelry or old coins. But there is one type of souvenir that should be handled only by the experts. Old military munitions remain from the days of World War II, when much of our nation was undeveloped and used by the military for training, testing and demonstrations. Even though these munitions are old, they may still be dangerous. If you see something that you suspect may be munitions, please follow the “3Rs” of safety. please follow the 3Rs of explosives safety: Recognize when you may have encountered a munition, and that munitions are dangerous. Retreat: do not touch, move or disturb it, but carefully leave the area, noting the location. Report: the object to local law enforcement by calling 911. Your safety is far more important than any souvenir.
