Officer Joel Mueller of the Columbia Police Department was recognized by the Citizens Police Review Board for making a positive connection with citizen he had erroneously arrested.
The incident started when Mueller served a search warrant and arrested a woman for what showed up in the police database as an outstanding warrant. Upon reaching the station, Mueller reportedly took a deeper look into the situation after the woman told him she didn't believe she had a warrant or should have been arrested.
The CPRB decided to recognize Mueller by having City Attorney Rose Wibbenmeyer draft a formal letter to be included in his file.
