Lake Victoria is home to many communities and cultures. Chief among them in Uganda is the Buganda Kingdom. In their local language the lake is known as Nalubale, a reference to the spirits and ancestors they believe reside in these waters. Further into the lake, there are shrines in honour of the Spirits and it is not uncommon to find people performing rituals along the water's edge. Well our reporter Lindy Mtongana was lucky enough to get an invite to the King's birthday party. It's a few kilometres inland. Here's more about the Kingdom and its history.
