Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles says it is important Australia develops the capability “to build nuclear-powered submarines”.
“And that’s a huge opportunity for Australia’s industrial base, particularly in South Australia,” he told Sky News Washington Correspondent Annelise Nielsen.
Mr Marles is visiting the US for the first time since becoming Defence Minister to have discussions related to AUKUS.
He said it was important for Australia and the United States to establish “a much more seamless and integrated pair of defence industries”.
“We really want to talk to the US about how we can do that.”
