STORYLINE
NEW ZEALAND WELCOMES IN 2009
Fireworks exploded over Auckland as New Zealand celebrated the New Year, welcoming in 2009.
Auckland was the first major world city to see in January 1st, and did it in style with a large pyrotechnic display, drawing thousands of revellers.
The tiny Christmas Island in the Pacific Ocean was the first inhabited place on Earth to see in 2009.
