Malcolm 8X Unertl Rifle Telescope Recoil Spring Installation and Removal Tutorial! (whew, that was a mouthful)
Installing the recoil spring on your Malcolm 8X Scope is just about as easy as putting a cap on a bottle. Removing it isn't that far off.
One thing to keep in mind, for both this scope and bottles :
Please keep upright until the essential pieces have been put back in place.
In the case of this scope, it's the Reticle Locking Screw and Collar. Once this ring (near the eyepiece) is removed, the reticle will sit freely inside the tube. Tilting too far will cause it to fall out. The mounts and spring can be removed easily by sliding them up the body of the tube - just make sure you don't tilt the scope when you're doing it. Keep the objective lens down, and everything's fine.
In the case of a bottle, tilting too much too early will result in a spill.
See the metaphor?
The steps:
1. Remove the eyepiece
2. Remove the eyepiece locking ring
3. Remove the reticle screws and collar
4. Remove the rear mount
5. Remove the rear locking ring
6. Remove the spring
(optional) 7. Remove the front mount
(optional) 8. Remove the front locking ring
To reinstall, switch 'Remove' to 'Install' and perform all steps in reverse order. Leave out the thing about the spring if you're not installing it.
