Kenya held its general election on Tuesday 9th August, 3 days ago, and the final presidential outcome is still unknown. NMG Kenya is now reporting results from the county elections. Nation Africa said in a press briefing this afternoon, that the Independent Electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC) has dismissed claims of its systems being compromised, following disinformation on social media about the unreliability of its voting technology. The CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan assured the country that IEBC’S systems are hackproof.
Also, the electoral agency said it had 'cleaned up' the floor at Bomas of Kenya and will now only allow IEBC officials, two agents belonging to each of the presidential candidates and returning officers to bring results to the floor of the auditorium. This announcement came hours after a scuffle between UDA and Azimio agents over claims that a suspicious gadget had been sneaked into the room by UDA agents.
The IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati added that going forward, agents would only look at the copies of the forms to confirm they were the same as the ones issued at the polling stations. However, security has been heightened around the Bomas auditorium, with no one allowed to access the area while carrying a bag or other items.
