The Antonov 225, once the largest aircraft in the world, the heaviest aircraft ever built and with the largest wingspan, now rests in pieces at the Hostomel airport near Kyiv. It was built as a carrier for the Soviet space craft Buran, it had survived the dissolution of Soviet Union, storage time, repairs and refurbishment, financial difficulties and problems and would serve for many years, carrying huge objects, machines and cargo only to end its career as a victim of battle that took place around it.
