The arrival at Carlisle should have been a perfect capture - but - Tornado with the Northern Belle was held at Upperby to allow a Trans-Pennine express to leave Platform 1 and cross the down main line before heading south. The result can be seen in the video.
After that, her manoeuvres seemed quite illogical to those of us watching - and left us quite unprepared - doubtless the controllers in the Carlisle box had their reasons.
I then took train to Glasgow from where I was unable to return as the late-night trains have fallen foul of the pandemic. An overnight in the city was followed by a long bus journey home as ScotRail are currently on strike every Sunday - oh joy!
