Dear Students,
This week am sharing a type of body scan that I use to release the residue of stress from my muscles. Even after the physical or emotional stressors are over, our body may not naturally release the muscles that are part of our instinctual stress response. Progressive muscle relaxation can help to show us where we are hiding tension in the body, and let the nervous system know it is safe to release it. We start with some belly breathing to invite the nervous system to relax, then purposely tighten then release muscles. This can be helpful to do before bed; or in my case, after a day of stressful, snowy travel.
