It's near freezing this Friday morning, and we have a light cold rain in many spots. If we see any sleet or ice, accumulations will be minimal, but it doesn't take much for some slick spots on elevated roads for patchy ice. That looks most likely from Houma and Thibodaux across the river parishes and on the Northshore mainly along the I-12 corridor. North of that, moisture appears pretty limited. In the city and toward the coast, we should remain above freezing. After about 8-9 a.m., temperatures will be above freezing and any ice will melt, but please be very careful if you have to drive Friday morning. Light rain is possible into the midday hours Friday mainly south of the lake with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s.
As we begin to clear out, temps will plummet both Saturday and Sunday morning with the potential for a hard freeze north and even west. In the city, we may only see a light freeze. For a hard freeze, aside from the people, pets, plants...also protect pipes.
Another cold front looks to move through Tuesday, albeit not as cold, but the chilly weather continues through next week.
