If you want to build bigger traps, you need to make sure you're using proper shrugs form during your back workouts. One common barbell shrug mistake is using too wide of a grip. This reduces your ability to build upper traps since it doesn't optimally line the resistance up with those fibers. Instead, when performing this back exercise make sure to use a wider grip a few inches outside of shoulder width. You'll build your upper trapezius more effectively this way.
