POLAND vs JAPAN | Highlights | Men's VNL 2024. In their third match during the Volleyball Nations League in Fukuoka, the Polish national team led by coach Nikola Grbic defeated the Japanese in great style 3-0 (25:17, 25:15, 25:20) , winning their third victory in this tournament. The White and Reds ruled on the pitch, dominating in all elements, but the biggest difference was made by blocking, which brought us as many as 14 points - 6 of them were the work of Jakub Kochanowski, who was also the best scoring player in our squad.
Coach Nikola Grbic decided that the White and Reds started the match against the hosts with: Bartosz Kurek, Jakub Kochanowski, Tomasz Fornal, Marcin Janusz, Norbert Huber and libero Jakub Popiwczak. The Japanese, in turn, started without their biggest stars, the starting lineup of Philipp Blain's team was as follows: Kento Miyaura, Akihiro Yamauchi, Shoma Tomita, Masato Kai, Larry Ik, Akihiro Fukatsu and lib Tomohiro Ogawa.
In the packed West Japan General Exhibition Center in Fukuoka, the White and Reds quickly took a three-point lead (5-2). Tomasz Fornal and our captain Bartosz Kurek, who is very popular in Japan, did great in attack (6 points in the first set). The hosts, driven by the fans' support, did not give up and tried to make up for the loss (8-7), but Kamil Semeniuk's excellent counterattack (our second highest scoring player in the opening game - 5 points) and his block work with Jakub Kochanowski allowed our team to quickly regain the advantage ( 11-7). The Poles gradually increased the distance (15-9) - Bartosz Kurek scored a point directly from the serve, and Kochanowski scared the opponents with his block (3 points in this element), increasing the advantage to 16-9. With Tomita on serve, the Japanese reduced their losses with a score of 17-14, but this did not deter the White and Reds from their rhythm, who, despite their rivals' efforts, were confidently heading for victory in this set. A block by Łukasz Kaczmarek - who checked on the pitch to raise the block - resulted in a series of set points (24-17), another point in this element closed the game 25-17.
The second set began - just like the first - with the Poles leading 5-2. From the beginning of this game, the block was a great advantage of our team. The hosts again tried to reduce losses (7-6). Fighting for a point with the score at 8-6, both teams delivered one of the longest and most spectacular rallies of this year's VNL - full of great defenses, ultimately the point fell to the Japanese, who managed to block Bartosz Kurek's attack. After Tomasz Fornal's attack, our team's advantage was as much as 10 points (23-13), using the second set ball, Aleksander Śliwka ended the set 25-15.
The Poles started the third set almost with the starting lineup, only Aleksander Śliwka replaced Kamil Semeniuk. Our receiver's attack opened this game. Coach Nikola Grbic's players performed perfectly on the pitch, taking a 5-1 lead, and although the hosts tried to get back into the game again (5-4), our players quickly responded with their powerful weapon in this match - the block, jumping back to 10-5. Jakub Kochanowski added a point from service. In the middle of the game, Łukasz Kaczmarek, Bartosz Bednorz and Karol Kłos entered the field, replacing Kurek, Fornal and Kochanowski. The Japanese - despite impressive defense - were not able to scare our players even for a moment (17-10), who were like a running machine, heading for another victory (21-12). Mateusz Poręba also appeared on the pitch at the end of the set. With the third ball of the match, Aleksander Śliwka sealed the victory 25-20.
Jakub Kochanowski was the best scoring player of our national team, having 11 points (6 blocks, 5 attacks - 63% effectiveness). Bartosz Kurek scored 10 points (8 point attacks, 1 ace, 1 block), and Kamil Semeniuk 9 (1 block, 8 attacks - 63% effectiveness and 75% perfect reception). On the Japanese side, Kento Miyaura scored 12 points.
