Having established a stable team in 2001/02, one of Gary Johnson's few signings over the summer of 2002 was attacking midfielder Gavin Williams from rivals Hereford. This enabled Yeovil to employ an attacking formation which was very difficult to counter, resulting in them scoring 100 goals in their Championship winning season and only failing to score on two occasions. With Williams, Crittenden and McIndoe all playing in attacking roles in addition to two strikers, it became impossible for the opposition to mark with one or even two players as they had done in previous seasons.
While Williams only scored six goals in the 2002/03 campaign, he was a key player in Yeovil winning the Conference title. He would go on to score 13 goals in their first league campaign and arguably be their best player in 2003/04 before being sold to West Ham in 2004. He remains one of the fans' most well-liked players.
