When you're shopping for a home-defense / self-defense / everyday carry (EDC) handgun, you'll have to decide if you want one with night sights. It's a decision because guns with night sights DO cost more. Are they really worth the extra investment? Brownells Gun Techs Steve Ostrem and Caleb Savant are back to answer this knotty question. Night sights, of course, have "self-illuminating" (i.e., glow-in-the-dark) Tritium inserts that glow to help you locate the sights quickly in dim light. We won't stress you out with suspense: Caleb's answer is a firm YES. He explains a home-defense scenario where night sights are critically important. Steve agrees.... and shows us some examples of night sights. You can get them with plain Tritium inserts or with white or colored (usually green, yellow or orange) rings surrounding the Tritium dots. Even if it didn't come from the factory with them, just about any handgun can be upgraded with night sights.
