After 90 minutes, Boro were winning 1-0 thanks to Bernie Slavens first half goal so the game went to extra time. Gary Hamilton scored in the first minute of the first period and no further goals meant it was Boro who would meet Chelsea in the two legged final for the right to play in Division One the following season.
