Despite the globe being in utter disarray and downunder the pandemic continues; severe flooding and concern about a world war about to erupt, a little parade that began 44 years ago, will again occur tonight, Sydney time. The Mardi Gras began as a protest and demonstration against the treatment of members of the gay & lesbian community by police authorities. Decades on, it has remained one of the most significant cultural events in the southern hemisphere, and pre-pandemic, would bring in people from all over the globe for the parade. Seen now as a celebration, rather than a protest, it is emblematic of the ongoing need and struggle that face any minority.
Diana Ross' 1980 hit 'I'm Coming Out' has been something of an anthem, as the term 'coming out' has such significance for folks in the lgbtqia+ community. When this song came out, I didn't understand the meaning of the concept. This track is from a 1994 LP called 'Diana Extended: The Remixes'. Maurice Joshua aka Maurice was the mixer behind this vibey version. It is always a pleasure to create a clip for the quintessential Diva = Diana Ross - images and gifs of the legendary performer are easily depicting her star quality. 41 years after this great Nile Rogers/Bernard Edwards song left the pop charts, it still has enormous significance for people all over the globe.
