What an Epic Night Chasing Threadfin Salmon and Jewfish in the Brisbane River.
Well my life has been so hectic recently and also to time a great night in the river with this atrocious wind lately has been almost impossible.
However I have recently seen alot reports of Threadfin and Jewfish being caught in the River. I wanted to take some of my trusty Crazee Vibes to target these fish, besides it has been a awhile since i took the boat into the River for a run.
the first Spot we went was a little wharf upriver and upon arriving there i found a school of about 50 threadfin and before i knew it, we have boated already 5 threadfin onto the boat. These Crazee vibes yet again were smashing the fish!
Even tho the numbers were there, and the threadfins caught in this spot were all legal, these fish were a little small for my liking. Soooo Tim Chance, Kallum Arie and I decided to head to the mouth of the river to chase some metries!
on the way to the Port i found a nice little wharf with some lights, and yet again those Crazee Vibration lures didn't disappoint. we bagged another 2 jewies on our first and second drift.
yet again they weren't of the size, that were astonishing!
but hey at this point we already boated 5 threadfin and 2 jewies.
it was going to be a good night and if we actually stayed at the same spots we would have boated at least over 10 fish!
But the search for the Metries were on!! so i decided to continue my journey to the mouth of the river.
upon my first drift in the Mouth, Timmy landed a Jewfish at 78cm.
the bigger fish were definitely here, the drive back to the mouth was proving very worth it, however we were still looking for the illusive meter fish on this night.
and like a light switch that someone turn off.. it went dead!!
2nd drift nothing, 3rd drift nothing. we decided to go to the new terminal and also to my amazement there wasnt a bite.
We had gaven up and it was already 12am in the morning, i had to work the next day and we were all tired. And seriously after 5 threadfin and 2 jewfish and even none of them were over a meter. it was still a greats night by anyone standards. happy with the results we decided to pack up and head back home.
As we were zooming back to the boat ramp, at the corner of my eye i caught a glimpse of a whaft that is not usually lit, but for some reason the lights on this wharf were on. so i looked at the boys and asked them if we wanted to try this last spot, cast and do a few hops and if nothing takes the lure, we will leave.
we all agreed... last spot, last few casts, last few minutes.. and then home!
Soooooo,
I position my boat where we can get an few awesome casts into the pylons, it was still quite we had nothing and then Suddenly BAM!!
my crazee 1500 spinning Reel started Screaming rod was (an 8 lb rod) and after a grueling fight i managed to pull a 110cm Golden Threadfin out of this spot.
I finally found my metre Threadfin tonight, what an astonishing day and one of the best night of fishing i ever had in the Brisbane River.
The Crazee Vibration Lure is so effective and strong. definitely one o the best lure to use in the Brisbane river. all the colours work, they don't fall apart after 1 fish like the other brands of soft lures.
i really rate them!!
