NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's basketball team set a program record for points in regulation during a Big 12 conference game, as the Sooners cruised to a 101-78 win over TCU on Tuesday night in Norman.
The 20th-ranked Sooners (17-4, 7-3) led for nearly 38 minutes and had five players score double figures in the win. Taylor Robertson, who broke the NCAA 3-point record on Saturday, was honored after the game, and Madi Williams had a season-high 26 points on an efficient 9-of-12 shooting performance.
"I thought we had some really great moments tonight," head coach Jennie Baranczyk said. "Then I thought we had some moments that we'll learn from. I thought that Madi (Williams) really set the tone for us early in the game and was phenomenal all night. It was great to honor Taylor's (Robertson) great record celebrated here at home in front of our fans."
The Sooners, as they did in Fort Worth vs. the Horned Frogs (6-15, 0-10), dominated the first quarter. Oklahoma used runs of 9-0 and 11-2 to take a 29-16 lead into the second. TCU slowed the OU offensive attack in the second frame, holding the Sooners to 5-of-13 (38.5%) in the quarter to cut the halftime deficit to just eight at 51-43. Baranczyk's team came out of the break firing on all cylinders, as another 9-0 pushed the Oklahoma advantage to 17 points. The Sooners entered the fourth holding that 17-point lead and poured it on in the final frame, where OU shot a blistering 65% (11-17) from the floor to dominate the Frogs en route to a 101-78 victory.
Oklahoma's 101 points set a program record for regulation points in a Big 12 game, besting the previous record of 100, set last year in Fort Worth vs. the Frogs. OU has now scored 100 points a Big 12-best five times over the last two seasons. The Sooners shot 58.7% (37-63) to set a new season-high and a season-best 94% (16-17) from the free throw line. OU outrebounded TCU 39-26, improving to 14-3 this year when winning on the glass.
Williams' 26 points led all scorers, as the senior shot 75% (9-12) on the night and a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. The Fort Worth native added six rebounds and a team-high four assists in the win. New NCAA 3-point queen, Taylor Robertson, buried four more treys en route to 18 points with three rebounds and assists. Her three rebounds pushed her past 500 for her career, as she became the first man or woman in NCAA history to tally 500 career 3-pointers (507) and rebounds (501) in their career. Skylar Vann and Ana Llanusa added 14 points, while freshman Beatrice Culliton reached double-figures for the second time in conference play with 10 points.
The Sooners return to the floor on Saturday when they host West Virginia (14-5, 5-3) at Lloyd Noble Center. Tip vs. the Mountaineers is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+ and marks the end of OU's two-game home stand before it hits the road for a pair of games next week.
