Athletes from different countries and personnel related to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics have joined in the festivities of the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Tiger, as they participate in making traditional food and learning about Chinese culture during the holiday.
The cultural and creative shop in the Main Media Center (MMC) for the Winter Olympics is full of festive vibe, with lanterns, Chinese knots, hand-painted New Year posters and tiger dolls being presented to foreign guests.
On Lunar New Year's Eve, Winter Olympics guests from various countries indulged in drawing sketches of tigers and making dumplings, getting a feel of some of the celebratory practices by Chinese people for their most important festival.
"It's just great timing. I'm very fortunate. I'm learning about the customs of New Year and the family gathering in the morning, the dumplings and all the happy feelings of New Year," said Dieter Ruehle, musical supervisor at Wukesong Sports Center for Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
Many athletes in the Beijing and Zhangjiakou Olympic villages have expressed their warmest New Year greetings to the Chinese people.
"Happy Chinese New Year. I wish you good luck in the Year of the Tiger," said a Canadian figure skating athlete.
"Happy Chinese New Year," said members of the U.S. Winter Olympics delegation.
"We wish you good fortune," said members of the Slovakian Winter Olympics delegation.
"We wish you vigor and vitality in the Year of the Tiger," said members of Slovenian Winter Olympics delegation.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach on Tuesday unveiled the Olympic Truce Mural at a ceremony in the Beijing Olympic Village, along with athletes and delegation members of different countries.
The truce mural for the Beijing 2022, named the "Light of Peace," was inspired by traditional Chinese lanterns that symbolize family reunion, interpreting the idea of pursuing peace, enhancing understanding, overcoming differences, and together for a shared future.
As the Beijing 2022 gets underway on Friday, more athletes from all over the world are arriving in Beijing. The Beijing Capital International Airport on Tuesday, the day of Spring Festival, saw the last arrival peak of Games-related personnel. A total of over 1,800 Olympics-related personnel on 18 flights entered China on the day.
