Once you achieve abdominal breathing, the next you thing you want to achieve is the ability to generate a lot of intra-abdominal pressure (IAP). Most people think bracing is contracting every lower torso muscle you can activate. This is only somewhat true. In cases of maximum effort (ie. a max lift), yes you will need to contract everything you can to not only generate tension but keep a stable/stiff torso so you can perform the effort. However, if you do that, you'll find that it's nearly impossible to breathe. If you learn how to generate IAP you'll be able to generate a ton of stability for your torso AND be able to breathe, allowing you to do things like swing kettlebells, run, swim, jump, etc. and remove the possibility of injury. If you brace with everything in your torso, you will tire quickly and the possibility of injury rises once you get fatigued in the torso.
