Red Bull’s winning streak in the pits continued in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone. The team’s mechanics executed the DHL Fastest Pit Stop once again, changing the tyres on Alexander Albon’s car in just 2.03 seconds this time on Lap 30.
The third-fastest stop of the day also went to the successful combination of Red Bull and Albon when they swapped mediums for hards in just 2.19 seconds on Lap 6.
These lightning-fast pit stops helped Albon make his way up through the field in Sunday’s race. After finishing ninth in qualifying, he fought his way up into fifth place with a series of spectacular manoeuvres. “I am happy with today’s race and the car was unbelievable,” said Albon. “At the beginning of the race, it was tricky to overtake with the DRS train, but once we had clear air, we had a really good chance to get through the field.”
This was Red Bull’s fifth DHL Fastest Pit Stop in the fifth race, so they remain unbeaten in the 2020 season. They have now extended their lead on Mercedes to 57 points in the overall standings of the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award.
