#1 Not the right type of bike time. Some of the days go for around 10 hours depending on your ability. If all your practice rides are made up of casual 2hr rides then you will find it hard to race 3 days in a row with ~10hr rides on 2 of those days
#2 Graham Jarvis said it in an interview “To take the win here you need everything. Skill on the bike but stamina plays such an important part as well”. So if you spent all your time on bike skills and didn’t bother to work on fueling yourself for a 10hr event, its going to hurt much more than it should, and you might not make it.
#3 Not enough riders getting themselves strong. You’ve got a 100kg bike plus your bodyweight. If you weigh 75kg, that's a total of 175kg you need to wrestle around for 10hrs. And then do that multiple days in a row. There is no amount of cycling or pushups you can do to build the strength you need to make the bike feel light. You need to be lifting weights.
