Thousands of Chinese investors traveled thousands of miles to attend the 2017 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting on Saturday at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska, USA.
Travel agencies said each Chinese delegation attending the meeting this year was composed of dozens of Chinese investors, and the largest Chinese delegation had about 70 people. Last year, more than 3,000 Chinese investors attended the meeting. According to incomplete statistics, this year the number of Chinese attendees has exceeded that of last year.
Many Chinese investors said they wanted to listen to the experience and opinions of Warren Buffett, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.
"It will take some time for Chinese investors to accumulate investment experience and develop a mature psychology. Therefore, we come here to learn from Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger, who have more than 60 years of successful experience. It's very inspiring for investors," said Gao Fan, a Chinese investor.
To serve the large number of Chinese participants, the organizer has opened a special conference room where the meeting was interpreted into Chinese in real-time. Chinese was the only foreign language used during the meeting.
The meeting was both time and money consuming for Chinese investors. It took them at least four to five days, including long-haul flights, to attend it. But many Chinese investors said the meeting was worthy of their time and energy.
"I can get much information and make many friends here. I can also know economic development trends of the future. I think it's worth my while to come here, absolutely. It's beyond my imagination," said Li Li, a Chinese investor.
The annual meeting drew more than 30,000 participants from across the world. Buffett and his longtime business partner Munger answered more than 50 questions during the question and answer session which lasted for over five hours. They made a presentation on Berkshire Hathaway's investment and performance in 2016 and also shared their views on the world economic trend.
