All good things must come to an end.
And even though we all saw it coming, it still hit ya quite a bit when Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement. And so, just like that, the greatest tight end in NFL history retired just nine years after his career began.
And so, Gronkowski retires with one of the most impressive resumes you’ll ever see for an offensive player: Five Pro Bowl selections, three Super Bowls, 521 receptions, 7,861 yards and 79 touchdowns.
Quite a career, if you ask us. We can only wonder how much better he could have been if is body didn’t constantly betray him. But hey, Gronkowski did more than enough to do two things:
1. Lock down a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame
2. Cement his case as the greatest tight end of all time
With all due respect to the likes of Antonio Gates, Shannon Sharpe and of course Tony Gonzalez, Gronkowski truly put himself in a class from the rest. It’s not all about stats, but simply how he completely took over the games. We simply don’t see another offensive weapon like him again.
With that, it’s time for us to put the debate away while we can.
