(16 Oct 1944) The liberation of Greece began with British destroyers operating the Aegean, they were ordered to intercept and destroy enemy shipping trying to evacuate German troops from Crete and the Aegean Islands. The British first landed on the island of Cythera and then on 26th September Greece itself. On the night of 3rd October, the third largest city in Greece, Patras was entered.
