In just over a week’s time, Malaysians will be voting in the country’s 15th general elections. The ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional, anchored by UMNO, will seek to retain power. With jostling among opposition leaders like Anwar Ibrahim, Dr Mahathir Mohammad and Muhyiddin Yassin, the opposition is fractured.
But the November 19 polls will be held amid concerns over heavy rainfall during the country’s annual monsoon season.
More than 50 people lost their lives and thousands were forced from their homes last year following the country’s worst flooding in decades.
Will the same thing happen again this year?
