Meet Michael George.
He's a 48-year-old data science architect from the Midlands, England, who loves to combine two passions: windsurfing and Rubik's Cube solving.
He is currently living in Weymouth, where he quite literally has Portland Harbour just a stone's throw from his doorstep.
On August 3, 2020, George solved a Rubik's Cube in 27.1 seconds, with one hand, while foil windsurfing.
"Solving a cube is definitely more difficult than windfoiling," explained George.
"I fully scrambled the cube prior to hitting the water and solved it using my standard speedsolving method which is CFOP."
CFOP is the acronym for Cross, First Two Layers, Orientation of the Last Layer, and Permutation of the Last Layer.
George had already solved Rubik's Cube while riding a standard windsurfer. In 2016, he did it 32 seconds.
He wanted to try it on a hydrofoil sailing equipment, but a setback delayed his project.
"I had a bit of a hiccup in 2018/2019 due to a serious Lisfranc foot injury which kept me off the water for about ten months," Michael George told SurferToday.com.
The unfortunate episode took place during a slalom event in extreme wind conditions.
George crashed seconds before one of UK's racers accidentally did a backloop in the middle of a slalom reach.
"It was worse than when I crashed at 45 knots while speed sailing," adds the British windsurfer.
"But I'm over that now and back into my speed, slalom, and foiling. I decided it was about time I attempted this challenge on a foil after considering it before my injury."
Michael George says he solved Rubik's Cube slower than when he doesn't have to concentrate on foiling at the same time.
We understand that. Nevertheless, he has improved his record - 27.1 seconds is not bad at all, is it?
