Olympic and world champion Soufiane El Bakkali from Morocco confirmed his men's 3000m steeplechase dominance, clocking 8:07.67 to claim the Diamond Trophy, at the 2022 Wanda Diamond League meeting (Weltklasse Zuerich) in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday.
Soufiane El Bakkali 🇲🇦: "This is the first diamond race trophy for me, I missed it four times. So now I'm very satisfied that I finally got it.
"This year was amazing for me winning the world championships and now the diamond race. What a wonderful season, I won so many races. As I really wanted to win today after those four times I missed the title, I wanted to make sure I would win.
"Today there were not really strong competitors because it is the end of the season.
"The strategy my coach and I had was to stay behind and to go in front only on the last two laps and it worked. I believe it is essential for me to have a good technique over the hurdles also because I am very tall.
"I am a hero in Morocco because I won the Olympic Games and the world championships, they are very proud of me, they love me. I gave Moroccan athletics a big push."
