This is the Anglia News TV Interview that went out live on ITV on the 11-05-2013.
The Freak Accident happened on Sunday the 5th of Mat 2013 in the late afternoon.
On approach to the airfield for landing the pilot seemed to come in lower than normal and only at the very last minute saw the power lines, he tried to power up to miss them but unfortunately collided with the 11,000 volt cables.
The Pilot who wishes to stay annonymous, lowered himself down to the floor out of his harness, after he untangled the paraglider wing lines, from his feet and arms.
The Emergency services were called striaght after the impact and A Doctor and Nurse from the Airfield attended to the pilot once he was on the floor, prior to the emergency services arriving, who were very prompt to the scene.
The Pilot was discharged from the Peterborough Hospital that evening and taken to a Burns unit where he received treatment for burns to his hand and leg.
Paramotoring is a very safe sport and any sort of accidents are very few and far between, and if a accident does occur it will normally will be a very light injury like a sprained ankle Paragliding and Paramotoring is a form of aviation that is foot launched and is a un-regulated form of aviation with the CAA because of its high level of safety, however full compliance to the CAA is adhered to, as is any form of aviation in the UK.
This is why we try to encourage anybody that is looking to get into the sport of Paragliding or Powered Paragliding (PPG, Paramotoring) to seek professional training so that they can fully enjoy the sport with knowledge, safety and compliance to CAA Airlaw etc for there own safety and other aviators.
The Pilot Quoted that: "I cannot wait to get back into the air", we wish him a speedy and full recovery.
