[ Ссылка ] Burgeoning Brit Gemma Steel confirmed her graduation to world class status with a big new personal best behind Ethiopia’s Belaynesh Oljira on a day of gripping head-to-heads in the elite races at the 25th Bupa Great South Run.
Steel was disappointed to lose out in a sprint finish to Oljira after forcing the pace for most of the way in the world’s leading ten mile road race but was rewarded with a time of 52 minutes 42 seconds, an improvement of one minute and two seconds on her lifetime best.
The elite men’s section of the prestigious IAAF Gold Label event, held largely on the Southsea-Portsmouth sea-front, also produced a thrilling showdown. Kenya’s James Rungaru caught Uganda’s Abraham Kiplimo with half a mile remaining before sprinting to victory in 46 minutes 31 seconds.
